  • St Augustine Swashbucklers

    The St Augustine Swashbucklers had its very beginnings in the vision of Joe Osteen in 2001 with the word of the first POTC film on the Horizon. Joe names his crew the St Augustine Swashbucklers, Privateers, Pirates and Scallywags, an all-inclusive name for an all-inclusive social group of like-minded individuals to socialize and share a love of piracy and the sea. As part of his adventure, Joe writes two books - Falcon’s Revenge (2004) and Pursuit of Honor (2004). Fast forward to 2007/08 when Joe Osteen a.k.a. “Saucy Jack,” meets, William McRea, a.k.a. “Capt. William Mayhem”. They discover their past families have many intertwining satires and a friendship of shared loves of history was formed.

    In 2009 Saucy Jack officially turned over the ships course to Capt. Mayhem and the group was officially renamed The St Augustine Swashbucklers

    The agreed purpose, direction and goal was two-fold: share the love of pirate history with others while doing good works for the community. In 2013, after much research, debate and discussion the Swashbucklers became a registered LLC with the state of FL., for the purpose of charitable work as a pirate entertainment organization.

    Over the years, the membership, like the sea, has had its high and low tides. The Crew has always been strong supporters of Community events such as the 450th celebrations, the St Augustine Celtic Festival (10 yrs), the Lions club (11 yrs), Kids Fest and of recent years Spooktacular (3yrs), and Old City Pirate fest (6yrs). The crew has even represented themselves Honorably at out of town events such as: Pirates of the High Seas in Panama City Beach Fl, (7yrs) and Pirates on the Edge in Edgewater FL, (2yrs). The List of Charities is as huge as the hearts of the entire crew when it comes to community involvement.

    The St Augustine Swashbucklers has a long and proud 22-year history, starting with our Founder, the Honored Joe Osteen. All are welcome to inquire of our membership and to be a part of a strong Crew and family in which we all know family is not always blood.

    The future of this crew is an open horizon to adventure, camaraderie, family .
